FAMILY NIGHT - 2008
Our Spring Family Night will begin Tuesday April 1 and run through Tuesday April 29th.
April 1, 8, 15 The World was Changed Forever
Brian Davies will lead a three week session.
Session 1 – “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” This session will explore how the Last Supper became the Mass or Eucharist, how it evolved in the first centuries, how it is celebrated today and its influence on the arts, especially music.
Session 2 – “When the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you.” Here we will talk about how the Holy Spirit guided the formation of the church, councils and doctrine, development and spread of the churc, churches and architecture.
Session 3 – “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Within this session, we will discuss how the church became the serving community, religious orders and healing, churches and education, work in the slums, churches and science.
April 22 The Rt Rev Rogers Harris Mission Trip to Haiti
Bp Harris’ trip to Cange was by a team of engineers going to inspect problems with the water system, a team of fiber-glass technicians going to train workers, and a team from Earth University of Costa Rica, seeking needed sanitation improvement. Dr. Harry Morse of Anderson, who led this trip, hopes to be with us to present pictures of the work in Haiti and plans for the future of this exciting mission work.
April 29 The Christian Labyrinth
Ginger Tidman, Lynn Childress, and Lou Leffler will present a class explaining the Christian Labyrinth. Labyrinths have a long history from Greek mythology to the version built in 1220 in the Cathedral at Chartres in France to modern installations in churches around the world, including at Kanuga and several churches in South Carolina. As one churchman wrote, “The labyrinth is a universal symbol for the world, with its complications and difficulties, which we experience on our journey through life. The entry to the labyrinth is birth; the center is death and eternal life. In Christian terms, the thread that leads us through life is divine grace.”
As was arranged early in February, the following seminar will be offered. It will run parallel to the above sessions.
Life in the Spirit Seminar
Kathleen Kojis, who leads our Family Night singing, and Mary Moosebrugger from St. Paul’s parish in Seneca will lead this seminar during the five Tuesdays in April. Parishioners from St. Paul’s will be joining us. This is open to everyone, however, it will be especially meaningful to those who have taken the class, The Helper. By attending, you will gain a knowledge of how the Spirit works and communicates with us, a deeper sense of the presence of God in your life, and a sense of peace and joy to sustain you in everyday life.
