The Sunday Journal

Greetings and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us please sign our Guest Book and plan to join us for refreshments in the Parish Hall immediately following the 10:30 liturgy. We would like to stay in touch with you and hope that you will come back.

What is the Sanctus? The Sanctus is the angelic hymn at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Table which we either say(8:00) or sing(10:30) together. We are directed in the liturgy with these words at the 10:30 worship, “Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name”.
This brief hymn is the song of the people as we move into the Eucharistic Prayer. I emphasize that it is the song of the “people”. Liturgy means the work or ministry of the people, and not just the priest, the choir, or the altar party. The Sanctus is our song to God in all God's glory, wonder, and praise, and all voices are lifted in thanksgiving to God's presence with us in the Holy Eucharist. You may note that we have included the words and music to the Sanctus in your bulletin insert. Let us make a joyful, prayerful song to the Lord our God.

Ecce quam bonum,

You may have noticed the empty school back packs in the narthex today.  Hopefully before the Oconee County school year begins on August 16th, Ascension will have filled several of these packs with school supplies to be handed out by Oconee Aid.

Some of our ministry committees are having a contest to see which is the best at this collection; that is the reason for the signs on the packs.  Please bring in supplies from the lists provided, and help each ministry be the best!  Remember, Tax Free Weekend is Aug. 6-8.                                Thank you,    Connie

 Ascension’s Prayer for Mission:
O God, creator of heaven and earth, open our hearts and minds to embrace unity with you and with one another as we strive to practice forgiveness and reconciliation.  Help us to be mindful of others and to invite and welcome others to our parish. Lead us to walk the path as  disciples of Christ, called to serve neighbors near and far. Direct us on our journey as we strive to meet the needs of our parish and community through sharing and caring, enhancing our lives and faith through relationships and interactions with one another. Guide us as we seek to meet the spiritual needs of God’s people in our worship, prayer, and study. Help us to show gratitude to you through faithful stewardship of our time, talents, and resources. May we be united as one with you and your creation through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
