The Sunday Journal
Greetings and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us, please sign the Ascension Guest Book in the Narthex. We are glad that you have come to worship with us this morning. If you are visiting at the 8:00 AM worship, please plan to go to breakfast with the 'Breakfast Group' immediately following the service. If you are here for the 10:30 worship, please join us in the Parish Hall for coffee, juice, and a light snack.
In the August Steeple you will read an article written by me informing the parish about the new Contemporary Holy Eucharist Liturgy which will begin Sunday, September 19 at 6 PM here at Ascension. We are currently in the process of seeking musicians for the service. If you play a guitar, banjo, bongo, flute, or any other instrument, please let us know. Please note that this will not take the place of any of our Sunday morning liturgies. Thank you.
Below is the article:
Dear friends in Christ.
I want to let you know about a new worship service that is being implemented here at Ascension. At a previous meeting, the vestry approved moving forward with the establishing of an Episcopal Contemporary Holy Eucharist worship service. The service
will be very similar to the Sunday morning liturgy. The music will be played on guitars,
and other instruments suitable for this style of worship.
Please note that this service will not take the place of our Sunday morning liturgies. The contemporary Eucharist will be held Sunday evenings, and will draw a different demographic for its congregation. We are following the example of several other Episcopal churches in our diocese by offering this different type of worship. There will be no screens and I can assure you, no bouncing balls. As you know, I am traditional. Any of you who have attended Cursillo, or, are familiar with it, will understand the style of worship we
hope to be able to offer to those in and around our community in the future. There is a
vast population of the unchurched and this is one more way to reach out and bring them in. With that said, if you play a guitar, bongos, tambourine, bells, or something similar, or
you want to be a part of this new ministry, please let us know.
Ecce quam bonum,
Deedie+

Ascension’s Prayer for Mission
O God, creator of heaven and earth, open our hearts and minds to embrace unity with you and with one another as we strive to practice forgiveness and reconciliation. Help us to be mindful of others and to invite and welcome others to our parish. Lead us to walk the path as disciples of Christ, called to serve neighbors near and far. Direct us on our journey as we strive to meet the needs of our parish and community through sharing and caring, enhancing our lives and faith through relationships and interactions with one another. Guide us as we seek to meet the spiritual needs of God’s people in our worship, prayer, and study. Help us to show gratitude to you through faithful stewardship of our time, talents, and resources. May we be united as one with you and your creation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
